Luxury Yacht Charter Destinations – The Balearics

As a luxury charter destination, Spain is really hotting up, and this magnificent part of the Mediterranean will be a favorite for superyacht charters during the summer yachting season.

While the visually and culturally spectacular Balearic Islands have always been deeply attractive to visiting yachts, recent favorable tax regulation changes and the rise of vibrant Barcelona as a yachting hub mean that chartering a luxury yacht in Spain just got a whole lot better.

It is easy to see why the Balearics are a jewel in the yachting crown. Clear sapphire waters, rocky grey cliffs, vibrant cities, soaring mountains and a myriad of perfect little coves to anchor your yacht in and wile away the summer days. Here’s a few of the highlights of a summer yacht charter in the Balearics.

Barcelona: Start your Barcelona yacht charter in the beating downtown heart of one of the world’s greatest cities. Soak up the art, culture and superb gastronomy of the Catalonian capital, before setting sail for one of the world’s great yachting ports, Palma de Majorca.

Majorca: In Palma, take in the architectural splendor of the immense gothic cathedral, wander along the palm-lined Paseo Maritimo, or dance the night away in one of Palma’s super-clubs. Once you’ve had your fill of world-class boutiques and tapas restaurants, follow Palma’s breathtakingly beautiful coastline, where the rugged landscape falls away dramatically into deep azure waters. Cruise leisurely along the Tramuntana Coast, taking in old fishing villages, orange groves and towering mountain ranges that rise high above the coast.

Menorca: This gem of the Balearics is easily reached from nearby Majorca, and its quiet beauty offers the perfect antidote to a busy life. White sandy beaches and turquoise water just beg you to stay just that little bit longer. Visit local restaurants to dine on freshly caught seafood, or wander through the low-lying hills that smell of the wild herbs that grow here.

Ibiza: This island is famously known for its party scene, with the biggest DJs on the planet converging on this stunning spot each summer to play in the many clubs. Ibiza is rapidly shedding its package holiday reputation and is increasingly attracting the jet set with its boutiques, excellent restaurants and summertime glamour, while the island also boasts gorgeous white sand beaches, rustic villages and pretty anchorages.

Formentera: Blinding white sands and sapphire waters await you on Formentara, the smallest island of the Balearics. Relax after the late nights of Ibiza and walk amongst the soft sand dunes and along the water’s edge, luxuriating in the quiet calm. Get your yacht’s crew to set up an elegant beach barbeque or a party under the stars to make the most of this exquisite island.

Cabrera: Make sure you only set aside 24 hours to visit Cabrera, for (as much as you might like to stay longer) this island national park has strict limits on how long yachts can moor. Use your time to explore its many treasures: visit the 14th century castle or hike its green hills, or snorkel and dive its crystal clear waters and sun bake on its warm soft sands.

In the Balearics, you will find the perfect blend of hedonistic glamour and sheer relaxation. The beautiful Spanish light, the sparkling sea, the sounds of water lapping on the hull… it’s all too easy to see why the Balearics are considered one of the best yachting destinations on earth.
